Petaluma Pilot Training Center is open seven days a week and we have instructors available all seven days to work with your schedule.
Picking a flight instructor is one of the most important parts of your flight training. Each instructor has a different teaching style just like everybody has a different type of learning style. We recommend trying out a couple instructors and seeing who fits with your personality and your learning style.

Professional Pilot, Marc Ashton, has been flying for 35 years and active in Flight Training for over 30. Marc specializes in Flight Training for Private Pilots. He started his professional flying career in the On Demand Charter world. The Airlines were the next stop, where he earned Type Ratings and the position as Captain. Marc teaches full time at Petaluma Pilot Training Center, and has been involved with the Petaluma Area Pilot Association for 25 years. I have been a pilot most of my life, and an instructor (CFI) since 2001, with over 3500 hours of instruction given. I can train for the Private and Commercial License, flight review (BFR), tailwheel, complex, high performance endorsements and CFI (if you’d like to become an instructor, too). I am also an Instrument Instructor (CFII), hold Advanced ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Insructor (IGI) ratings and so can train for the Instrument Rating and conduct Instrument Proficiency Checks (IPC).
I currently own a fully instrumented Piper Archer II, which I’ve flown over most of the country, including trips to the Bahamas!
My previous career in television broadcasting for NBC and CBS afforded me the opportunity to do a fair amount of aerial videography. Credits include the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NY from a Bell Jetranger and Superbowl XIII in Miami from the Goodyear Blimp, for which I won an Emmy! So if you’re interested in aerial photography I can help you there, too.

When I learned to fly in 1977 it was the start of the most awesome experience of my life. It opened a whole new world to me.
I have been flying since 1977, received my license in 1978, and I have been teaching since 1981. In college, I majored in teaching, so that came very naturally. I love teaching on the one to one basis as in flying. I also find teaching a challenge, but a very rewarding experience. Sharing the flight experience and the learning is fabulous. I have over 5000 hours. I own two aircraft, one that I leaseback to the school, and the other is a 1974 Piper Cherokee. I also fly my boyfriend's RV6.
I am active in flying and the flying community: I am an AOPA member and EAA member, I am active in the local Petaluma Area Pilots Association, and I am on the scholarship committee in that group. I am a FAAST team representative for the FAA. I hold both CFI and CFII ratings.
Roger's life has been aviation. He could fly before he could even drive. Starting with five years in the British Royal Air force, where he obtained a degree in aeronautical engineering as a maintenance engineer, which included one year as a flight test engineer. More engineering with Australia's Qantas Airways, before embarking on a twenty eight year career flying for Cathay Pacific Airways, in Hong Kong. He has logged more than 35,000 hours, which includes the B747, corporate flying in Cessna Citation 1, 11, Encore, Focker F28 and instruction in single and twin engine aircraft.
Stephanie has been flying since 2002 and is a CFI, CFII, and MEI. She previously flew 5,000 hours at a regional airline and has 3 type ratings. She is now a full time mom with twin sons and proud to be one of Petaluma Pilot Training Center’s newest instructors. Stephanie looks forward to fueling students enthusiasm for flying and helping them meet their aviation goals. She is a member of the Petaluma Area Pilots Association and the Ninety-Nines Women Pilots Association.
I learned to fly in 1973 at Hayward Airport and began my career as a flight instructor at Gnoss Field. I went on to work for a regional airline for 24 years serving as a Captain and Supervisory Pilot. In 1999, I joined the FAA as a field inspector and spent my last year before retiring as the Oakland FSDO FAASTeam Manager. I hold Airline Transport Pilot Multiengine Land including 5 Type Ratings, Commercial Single Engine land, Sea, and Glider. I hold Certified Flight Instructor Airplanes Single and Multiengine, Instrument Airplane and Glider. I have owned several airplanes including Aeronca Champ and Cessna 170. I am looking forward to continuing my aviation activities as a flight instructor and hope I can promote safety and help new pilots as they achieve their goals. I am interested in conducting flight reviews, WINGS, and providing primary instruction. I am very happy to be a part of the Petaluma Flight Training Center and the local flying community!
Ken Maroney started his flight training in Sonoma county while attending Sonoma State University. He played on the Mens Golf team for 4 years and competed in the NCAA National Championship in 2015 while also obtaining his degree in Political Science. After Sonoma State golf, Ken continued his golf career and turned pro, eventually competing in a few pro events. Ken got his first taste of flight while visiting his Grandfather in San Antonio, Texas who had worked for the Cessna aircraft Company in the "Golden Age" of aviation. It was his grandfather, who was an attendee at the Wright Brothers' Funeral and native Daytonian, that sparked Ken's love and passion for anything aviation. He continues towards his goal everyday which is to become an ATP and an FAA Master Pilot. He is an American Flyers Graduate and has been instructing in the airline environment since 2018 in Phoenix, AZ training future airline pilots for The Lufthansa Group, Air China, Austrian Air, and several others from the European and Asian markets. He loves anything aviation so come hang out at PPTC and fly with CFI, CFII Ken!
